Sumercé works with more than a dozen independent artisans in Boyacá, Colombia to provide fair wages for them and their families. Each item is purchased directly from the source, allowing for immediate impact and meaningful change regardless of whether the product sells.

Sugamuxi is a region within Boyacá composed of thirteen small towns that once served as an important religious center for the Muisca culture. This region was as an important pilgrimage site for the indigenous people to worship at the Temple of the Sun. Many of our products include these symbols and designs that originate from the Muisca culture, because this is where the Muisca believed the Sun was born.
